1983’s The Hunger is what happens when the fantasy of eternal life goes horribly, horribly wrong. Opposite an effervescent Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie fully inhabits his role as an 18th-century dandy stuck out of time — not that far off from reality when you think about it. In the end, director Tony Scott’s tribute to the vampire genre is a lush, emotional journey, peppered with slinky yet elevated styles that stand the test of time.
